Residential Development

Kalo Chorio is one of the communities of Larnaca which has developed significantly in the past few years. The determining factor in the village’s development, not only at a residential level, has been its geographical position. To be more specific, after the Turkish invasion, the village has become the crossroad of three cities, Lefkosia, Lemesos and Larnaca.

However, studying the development of the village, one concludes that this is directly linked to the creation of the refugee housings.

In particular, the first Greek-Cypriot refugees who came to the village in October of 1974 originally stayed in the abandoned Turkish-Cypriot houses. Later on, however, as the number of refugees was increasing, refugee housings began to be created. Nowadays, the community numbers seven refugee housings which are constantly expanding.

Additionally, land development in Kalo Chorio was aided by the infrastructure works that have been effectuated in the community (More: Projects), as well as by the fact that the Community Council has granted plots to young couples.
