Kalo Chorio is a community of the District of Larnaca and is built at an average altitude of 80 m, whereas it is located approximately 10 kilometres west of the city of Larnaca and 37 kilometres northwest of the capital city.

Strolling around Kalo Chorio of Larnaca, one can admire the unfolding images of both the present and past. Some images which take you back to the past include houses of traditional architecture, the old church and a minaret, while the present is depicted through modern large houses, the new church of Saints Vasileios and Raphael, the primary school, the state and community nursery school and finally the coffee shops located in the heart of the village.

Naming
Four other villages on the island bear the same naming. However, only one is located in the District of Larnaca where our village is also located. The same applies for the District of Lemesos, whereas the remaining three villages bearing the same naming are located in the District of Nicosia.

Our village used to be called "Vuda" by its Turkish-Cypriot residents from the time of the Turkish occupation. The Great Cyprus Encyclopaedia adds that this naming cannot be attributed to any source, although it does cite an opinion by Nearchos Clerides who supports that the naming derived from the name of a feudal owner of the medieval times.

Population – Professions

Between the years 1881 and 2001, Kalo Chorio has mainly followed an upward populating course, although some slight falls in the number of the population are observed in some years. What needs to be noted is that in 1946, out of the 660 residents of the village, 215 were Greek-Cypriots and 445 Turkish-Cypriots, while in 1960 there were 128 Greek-Cypriots and 434 Turkish-Cypriots. In 1973, there were 125 Greek-Cypriots while the rest were Turkish-Cypriots. However, after the Turkish Invasion the village was inhabited by a large number of refugees, whereas the Turkish-Cypriot residents moved to the occupied by the Turks part of Cyprus. With the creation of the refugee self-housing the population increased significantly.
